Policy

Our combined approach to simultaneously improve building safety and energy efficiency intersects several European Commission priorities. This section illustrates the dynamic impact of the pilot project across European policies and political priorities.

Background

The pilot project produces knowledge, guidelines and policy recommendations to safeguard homes and buildings. These insights empower government and industry to achieve several European Commission priorities tied to the built environment.

The European Green Deal, the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction all call for the upgrading of ageing buildings. Safety and energy renovation projects are a key to Europe’s sustainable development objectives because each investment benefits society in a multitude of ways.

Safe and resilient buildings protect our people, buttress our economy, and decrease natural resource consumption. What’s more, renovation projects to traditional buildings and cultural heritage sites preserve the rich architectural identity of our diverse regions.
