Our buildings are ageing, posing an urgent need for renovation to achieve multidimensional European and international goals. Integrated renovation of buildings provides a unique opportunity to create a safe, sustainable and inclusive built environment. Optimised investments to modernise buildings will improve the lives of millions of Europeans and create jobs in the construction ecosystem.
The pilot project ‘Integrated techniques for the seismic strengthening and energy efficiency of existing buildings’ was initiated by the European Parliament and executed by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. It provides scientific support and technical guidelines based on data from EU Member States, and the analysis of the European building stock, renovation technologies, assessment methodologies and scenarios for renovation. These guidelines can help authorities at multiple levels with the practical implementation of bespoke strategies that consider regional needs and leave no one behind.
If you are a policy maker at national, regional or local level, practitioner or scientist interested in the renovation of buildings, join us for the technical workshop that summarises the main outcomes of the pilot project. The objectives of the workshop are to:
- present evidence on technical feasibility and benefits emanating from integrated seismic and energy renovation
- provide information on the tools, guidelines and readily accessible resources to support the planning and implementation of renovation projects which reduce at the same time the vulnerability and energy inefficiency of buildings
- stimulate the use of these integrated solutions
- create awareness about the topic in the aim of risk prevention
- bring about understanding of the renovation challenges and offer further scientific evidence for more-informed decision making
- encourage the sharing of knowledge, experience and ideas among authorities, practitioners, scientists, and policy-makers through animating new networks.
